About the Artist
Kate Beck (b.1956, University of Maine, Bennington College, Maine College of Art, Goddard College, MFAIA) is an American painter, photographer and writer. She is known for poetic, large-scale works that embrace landscape and architecture. Using gesture and color to blur the space between reality and abstraction, her newest works merge photographic image with the abstract materiality of painting, referencing both the personal and global cultural experience.
She is a recipient of a professional grant from the Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Foundation in New York. Her journalism (including BOMB magazine, COAGULA Art Journal, Radius Books, Peter Foolen Editions and Artemis) is sourced through New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) in New York. Professional collaborations include Thomas A. She is a BAU Institute Fellow - New York, France and Italy. Native to Maine, Kate lives and works on the coast, along ocean and woods. She is a teaching artist, offering workshops through her studio and as faculty at Maine Media Workshops + College in Rockland, Maine.
